João Ribas (b. 1979, Braga, Portugal) is Curator at the MIT List Visual Arts Center in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He was previously Curator at The Drawing Center in New York. His writing has appeared in numerous art and culture publications, and he is a former editor at Art Review and LTB Media.
His recent curated exhibitions include Stan VanDerBeek: The Culture Intercom (MIT List Visual Arts Center and Contemporary Art Museum, Houston, 2011) Manon de Boer (Contemporary Art Museum, St. Louis, 2011); FAX (Carpenter Center, Harvard University, 2011); Frances Stark (MIT List Visual Arts Center, 2010); and Ree Morton: At the Still Point of the Turning World (Drawing Center, 2009).
He is the winner of three consecutive AICA Awards for Best Exhibition in a Non-Profit Space (2008-2010) and of an Emily Hall Tremaine Exhibition Award (2010). He has contributed essays to numerous publications, catalogs and monographs, and has been a visiting lecturer for institutions and organizations such as Secession, Vienna; Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam; Maison de La Culture du Monde, Paris; Brown University; Harvard University; Columbia University; The Core Program, Glassell School of Art; Cranbrook Academy of Art; Boston University; and The Cooper Union. He was previously adjunct faculty at the School of Visual Arts in New York and the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). He is currently on the board (2011-2012) of AICA-USA, the United States section of the International Association of Art Critics (AICA).
